Take a look at this vid from a fellow piranhakeepers member , this rhom bites of chunks of sponge, but spits it right back out. They know when they bite something unfamiliar and will likely spit it out.

Wow this thread is old, but anyway my current rhom is doing awesome, bought him the day my other one died, he's about 4-5 months old and was unbelievably small when I got him, on NLS and doing great! he's apprx 2.5-2.75" got him at .5"
