Trout or bluegill?

Wait, I just read that trout can keep themselves alive even at around 70-73 degrees. That's about room temperauture where the tank would be, do if I got a fan and placed it over the tank, I could probably get a few degrees of cooling.

Would this be acceptable?



Any links to a DIY on the refrigerator and tubing coils thing?

Not for brook trout. That is more rainbow to brown.

The fridge thing doesn't really exist. At least I have not see one made that I can recall. Just drill a hole in the side of the fridge were you won't hit any vitals. Then run a python hose inside with several coils. Then drill your hole for the return. Make it a close loop system for best results. The slower the water moves through the fridge the colder it will get. Also the smaller the line the faster it will get cold.

On the contrary browns have been known to live and thrive in warmer waters then rainbows. They also do better in lower d.o. then any of them. To include the quality of the water and spawning. Brook is the most demanding, then rainbow and then brown.

Nope Sbuse is right, brown trout is more tolerant than brook and rainbow.
 
Ive heard browns are more tolerant also, but could they really withstand the summer heat? Not a chance.
 
I would have to agree with sbuse and MN_Rebel that browns would be more tolerant than rainbows.

No trout can withstand the summer heat, no matter what species it is.

In tanks in basements browns might stand a chance. As long as the temp doesn't stay at 75f or higher for long. If it would be at an average of 72f or below with enough flow/d.o. a brown could survive. They do in many small streams around here were they are introduced. If the tank is 80f or above they actually melt. My brook trout did that. Big heat wave, no chiller and ran out of ice.
Best temp to keep any trout at would be in the mid 60's even mid 50's would be best.
