How many Arowanas in a 7'3'3' tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree..... My tank footprint is 8'x3x3. I started with 100x small 3" silver arowana. I downsized to 50x 6 month later, than 7. And now I only have 4x silver arowana and my tank still seem a bit crowed but it look perfect :)

IMO, the only thing thats matter is what you want and filteration, filteration, filteration.

2 big pond filters running. 10, 000 litres of filtration :! D

Well I don't live in London so I don't know the price conversion but cheapest silvers I have found here is 50 US dollars for about 4 inches. 70 for 6 inches. For blacks I've seen 130$ for 4 inches and 200$ for 6 inches. Jardini arowanas starting price is around 100$ and asian arowana are illegal in the states. As for these pricings, this is for east coast average

yh definitely. maybe..im not sure..I'll have to see what happens. but 10, 000 litres off filtration is enough right?

I am going to disagree with what the rest of people are saying, ya bigger might always be better but really show me one or two of the people who have commented that have a tank that size or larger for what they call the best size. Seriously you have a tank that will work very well with Arows. I do not see why you could not keep a couple of them without any issues at all.

I realize you have a very large tank, but have you ever kept an aro? How about a community of arowana? Click the link in my signature. It is very apparent that four 30" arowana in a 96x36x30" tank are too crowded. The tank was much better suited when there was three and they were a bit smaller. Keeping a pair of arowana has a rather low rate of success, though it can be done.

is there a species you would say may work well.? btw. your tank is amazing. one of my favourite tanks ive seen

Thanks, I cant comment on asian aros except that I have seen both failed and successful communities here on MFK, I would still recommend having multiple tanks while trying to build the community. Casualties with asian aros could become quite costly. Jardini are out, very high rate of failure trying to keep with tankmates. S. leichardti, hard to say, not real common in the hobby, but seem to be less aggressive then the jardini.

My recommendation would be to say away from silvers, they will get drop eye, it is ugly. Plus they are the largest species of arowana. I would look into getting black arowana. With a single black you can keep in a community with a multitude of other fish. If you want multiples I would say three max, though you may find that three 30" arowana in that tank of yours to be crowded.
