Fish Usually Not Kept As Pets?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I keep a shoal of shiners in my FRT tanks as dithers and snacks for the turts. I replenish the numbers every once in a while but, some of the shiners have lasted long enough to breed in the turtle caves. I keep finding fry when I'm doing tank cleaning.

I have a white catfish(amerius catus) which I don't think very many people have due to their somewhat limited range. I like it...it acts more like a channel catfish than anything but it has big blue eyes.

prickly sculpin - Cottus asper

very few around MFK have them..or keep them..or can even keep them alive ^_^

Only problem would be keeping it alive!

Sorry kinda forgot about this thread! No they are not easy, but can be done. I have kept goldens, tigers, and rainbows, they are very vulnerable to stress during transportation, but once in the aquarium are fairly easy.

here are some. idk know if they are uncommonly kept or whatever but i have yet to see many people with them. I had a crawfish I bought at my local grocery store. i bought them as feeders for my largemouth bass but this one was way to monster for him to swallow. I have kept green banded darters both male and female(i think the one in the pic might have been the female rainbow darter but i had green banded females too) but never bred them. the other was a log perch darter i had for a while before my bass ate it. and I also had an awesome looking orange spotted sunfish for awhile. all of these were great fish while they lasted but most ended up getting eaten by my largemouth bass eventually.
