Saratoga jardini pond build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
and no maybe i might put some gudgeons in

any additions to that pond shouldn't be small enough to get inhaled by barra. Longtoms would be cool but not easy to find in our area and if you think saratogas have a jumping problem....

I didn't know there were any hatchery bred jacks. I read somewhere (I think qld DPI) that great sums of money were invested in research but haven't heard any success stories. But it just might explain why some jacks can live in communal tanks without causing total mayhem.
never herd of a nice jack

I managed to keep one of mine with other fish for a while but it was short lived. Of the 2 I've had there was a clear difference in aggression levels. My first jack wasn't scared of much - even drew blood on me once. Whereas my second one was very shy when something was altered (new tank, tankmates, big wc, etc etc)

Yeah there is one in the NT I know of. I was reading about how some others hade huge mortality rates. But from what i've heard NT has gotten a few juvies from the wild (No size limit there) and learnt from them. They aren't rleasing too much this is all i've heard. But yeah for a few years now they've been breeding. My jack came from NT but it was wild caught.

It's funny how in different states there are different rules for catching the same species of fish. Here in NSW also no size limit for jacks - the real trick is finding one within NSW. The thing is with the correct permit, some people are allowed to extract them from the wild for purposes such as aquaculture or even supplying the pet industry.

Yes exactly, the guy who sent my LFS my jack was a creepy old swampy guy apparently, still got 140 for each jack though, would of been making a killing! Though he was braving the crocs with a castnet at night in knee deep water to catch them. :nilly:
