Yes exactly, the guy who sent my LFS my jack was a creepy old swampy guy apparently, still got 140 for each jack though, would of been making a killing! Though he was braving the crocs with a castnet at night in knee deep water to catch them. :nilly:
now thats dedication

he got 140 per jack?? wow. I've never paid that amount for a juvenile jack. He must have made some serious coin.

Actually i'm not sure he got 140 each, they were just that expensive because my LFS had to pay freight from NT. There was other slightly larger ones that were $145 but were very pale, when I got mine he was a little under an inch and had amazing colours, like, i've never seen colours like it before on a Jack. I paid $145 for him, but I was happy because there hadn't been ANY jacks in any fish stores within a 150km radius of me for over 1.5 years. Was just lucky I guess,

OOOhhh 145 from lfs. Now I understand. I thought you meant the guy catching them (the "wholesaler") sold them for that price. I thought it was a bit steep... But it is true that mangrove jacks are getting harder to find in the last few years. Actually, many native species are getting difficult to obtain in the aquarium trade now. Even fish like aussie bass are thinning out in numbers. Really is a shame but what can ya do

I hear ya, they've dropped in numbers so much in the past 2 years. There are still quite a few getting around though. Picked u a Murray Cod at 1 inch for $8 the other week. And my LFS have Aussie bass, silver perch, Scats, Mono Sebae, Mono Argentus, Barramundi, Mudskippers, murray turtles etc, its quite handy.

murray turtles in a lfs? that's awesome!! believe it or not its actually not legal for shops in nsw to sell reptiles or even display them. Murray cod... that reminds me; how come there's no murray cod going into this pond Turtles?

want you want one in :naughty::naughty::naughty::woot: (new fish)

Murray cod in a pond should be easy as to maintain. They even like the cold so if a heater blows at least the mc would be fine. My mate had a cod in a pool that was converted to a pond. Grew to over 1m and meaner than most other fish I've seen.

Was it you in that other thread talking about theh 1m Murray cod? I'm actually going to put my MC in my 12'x3' circular backyard pool if he doesn't get along with my Jack. Definitely see if I can get him big enough to eat the neighbours ass of a cat.

yeah that's the one. Not sure if the cat thing is true but the pond did attract some random birds, and the guy that complained had a cat (HAD). So there may be some truth to it. Would have paid to see it to be honest.
