Makin a Poo
So the more I se these FHs the more I want 1. My LFS never seems to have them & I'm unsure about pitting up big money & having some shipped.. I'm wanting something cool with a kok & came across this listing on my local CL. Pics aren't great but can anyone tell me anything about this, what to expect & will it develop a kok from this ad with the pics in it?

I'd personally let it pass, it is low quality FH.

You can get a hell of a good quality FH here:

http://www.aquabid.com/cgi-bin/auction/auction.cgi?fwflowerhorn

Some of the prices are overrated IMO, however you can make a search there and get a very good quality FH for, let say 100-150 bucks, but it also depends on how much are you planning to spend, maybe you were planning to spend 20 to 30 bucks then 100 to 150 may sound a lot of money for some people.

Cheers.

I wouldn't have a issue spending 100-125$ for a good quality flowerhorn, the shipping is what make me kinda nervous.. However that being said if I went that route what would be compatible tankmates for a flowwrhorn? My tank is a 180 gallon..

Honestly you can try tankmates with a flowerhorn depending on his personality but FH are easily the most agressive cichlids towards other fish I've owned outside of a dovii (and I've had over 75% of the top 10 agressive cichlids). Some aren't overly territorial and females should be fine in a community setting but my 10" alpha male from the SRD fry I grew out surprisingly punked my dovii like crazy in a 240g until he got his 100 back (although the dovii's jaw would've eventually overpowered the fh). I would DEFINITELY spend the extra money on shipping because almost everything on CL and at your lfs will be very low quality, but if you get a fish that's been divided its whole life you won't have much luck with any tankmates long-term besides a female. Your best bet would be getting a 2-3" male from aquabid and keeping him with slightly larger cichlids that can hold their weight (mine tried to kill a pacu twice his size before I took him back out so unrelated fish won't really work), or if you want a pair just get a small group of juvies and sell the ones that don't pair. I saw a group of 6 KK on aquabid yesterday for $100 and shipping costs are only from the nearest transhipper to your house instead of all the way from Thailand lol

+1.

IMO I wouldnt try to keep a FH with any other fish at all, FH would pick on to death any other tank mate you keep along with him.

Moreover if you want to get the best out of your FH, it is alone how this fish flourish the best.

Well I've entries sending Julie a message on Facebook & through the contact us portion of her website a couple times since last Friday.. Haven't heard anything back. Is it gen take awhile to get contact back?

I sent her a message 2 weeks ago and didn't get a response either so I just figured she's an extremely busy person and will only reply if you have a serious inquiry about a specific item. She seems like a reliable and reasonable transhipper but I got the feeling most of her fh's are fish ppl changed their minds about so you would probably be better off ordering from a place like fengshui and letting them arrange shipping thru Julie
