From what I've read the majority of Senegal Bichirs on the market are Captive Bred (CB) ... so mine probably is too. But I was wondering if there is a way to determine if one's Bichir is CB or Wild Caught (WC). It seems the biggest difference I can find is the size they'll grow to. Which would also determine the size of tank I may need down the road. So if there is a way to tell the two apart (other than time to see just how big it gets) would someone please enlighten me on how to check.
Thanks in advance

You can also check for genetical deformities like missing fins, small fins, crooked spines etc. The price and the location you got it from will also be useful.. Cheap bichirs from lfs will normally be wild caught, while specialized shops, mainly online, sell WC.

Thanks for the quick reply .... here's a few pics of said bichir. I'm leaning towards CB, but I don't think there's any deforminties per say. He wasn't too expensive only paid $14, 2 or 3 months ago now, at my one of my LFS nearby.

Regardless he's fun to watch. I'm more curious on the fact that most literature points to CB bichirs never attaining the sizes that WC bichirs attain.

senegals in the lps are 99% CB unless they are list as "WC" by a reputable person or if they come in a large size with good colors. This is rare.

that's what I'm getting at ... how do you know .... whats the secret ... could you please explain what to look for to determine if one is CB or WC.

99% of all sens in Canada are CB. no point. They are WC unless listed.
