So, I've always wanted an oscar. I've kept lots of other kinds of fish in the past, but never had a tank big enough for one of these guys. Well, I finally got my hands on a 75g and set it up. Got everything all ready for him, and brought home my first Oscar. (yay!) I picked a 2 1/2 - 3 inch little Tiger oscar. He's been in my tank for 2 weeks now, and has grown to 4 1/2 - 5 inches! In 2 weeks! I had done a lot of research prior to getting him, and nearly everything I read stated I would see about 1 inch growth per month. So what's the deal? Do I have a mammoth on my hands, or do these incredible growth spurts just happen sometimes? Thanks!

i wish my black rhom grew that fast lol

I feed a variety of foods, Hikari gold, frozen shrimp and krill, peas (loves them!) "porch light cuisine" (moths, various flying creatures, etc.) I change water 2 times per week, about 20%. He's fed 2 times per day, a small amount of pellets in the morning and one of the other foods in the evening. I've been soaking his pellets in Vita Chem vitamins. No feeder fish.

obligatory request for pics.

That is an amazing growth rate. He might have been stunted and your catching him up. Good job!

Yeah sounds like hes been held back a bit and is catching up with where he should be. I once found an skinny half inch Flowerhorn in my filter from a previous spawning (way back when I thought FHs were cool lol) and once he got into the tank he just took off... Never seen a fish grow so fast!!! He grew from 1/2 inch to 4 inches in 2 months!

I'll post a pic on Saturday, I am out of town for a couple of days. I'm glad to know it's probably just him catching up with his growth!
