So I have 2 super red severums and 6 geophagus red heads in a 125 and I am looking for something big that will dwell on the top layer. I have long wanted a flagtail prochilodus. I plan to remove two geos to a 55 if (and hopefully when) they pair up. So will a flagtail live peacefully with 2 severum and 4 geophagus red heads?

I have also considered some festivum. If the flagtail will not work, will 4 festivum be okay?

Mesonauta are not necessarily a top dweller. They will definitely eat from the top and head for the top when they're scared (they're jumpers) but they occupy all levels of the tank just like severums or geos. I've heard flagtails can be kind of aggressive and bully other fish, which may not be good for smaller geos considering how large the flagtails can grow.

I did not know that about festivum.

Kind of my worst feelings confirmed. I came across one post about an aggressive flagtail and apparently it's more common than I thought. :(

X2. These are not a top dweller.

Angels maybe? And some schooling dithers.

I have angels now and I am finding I don't like them nearly as much as I thought I would.

I have considered a school of lemon tetras, but I want to see if I can find something big first.

And I will clarify that by "top dweller", I just mean a fish that spends 75%+ of its time in the top 30% of the tank.

Out of curiosity, at about what size will the flagtail begin to display its aggression? How fast do they grow? I am thinking I might give it a shot and see if I can find a more peaceful one. If not, I can always rehome it if it doesn't grow too fast.
