Armatus or to young to tell? From ECZS

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Man I would LOVE to get my hands on some wallacei. They're supposedly a golden scomb-like fish that gets a bit bigger and has a black base color. I wonder why this one species is unique in being completely absent from the hobby?

Mark start shaking some trees in the jungle, we want wallacei! ( although i will have to ask these guys if it is a wallacei)

The tail fins on the fish in Marks photo are not scomb like at all.

LOL if the supplier didn't know they had tats I'm not sure how I would ask for wallacei

Mark i would like to reserve one of your next "scombs'lol

Give me a few weeks, maybe I'll get some more of these 'scombs' in ;)

At first I was 100% sure mine were not tats, then after reading some comments I'm thinking maybe I had tats.....but looking at the pictures Trev just posted mine looked nothing like either picture of the yellow or red tats. Mine had a much more pronounced notch between the nose and forehead of the fish and the tail fin were rounded in the corners. Now I'm not sure what I had lol

For S&G, here's some dead wallacei for you guys:

especies:characidae:cynodontinae:hydrolycus_wallacei.jpg

especies:characidae:cynodontinae:hydrolycus_wallacei_2.jpg

Note the unusually large eye, the odd dentition for a Hydrolycus species, the black fins, the scomb like fin shapes, the gold color on the cheeks, and most intriguingly, the very large scales.

armatus is more my type.

But Tat is more for your tank.... ;)

I love Payara. The people down south don't know what they are. This became blatently obvious the second time "Armatus" were sent up here, and we got the ridiculously rare Cynopotomus.

Has always been a pain tracking down certain species cause proper ID and what shows up on a list are often completely different......

That's why it never hurts to ask here........

Thats just the differences in age, size, enviorment, etc that they look a little different
