FIRST SALTWATER TANK (ADVICE)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
make a build thread once you get stuff together ... and im sure we will be able to help along the way ... yes keep slow on adding fish

i find protein skimmers unnecessary
on my tank i did biweekly 15% water changes ...
tested parameters daily
you need good flow ... lots of water-changes ... that is the key

I will... I am actually thinking a custom plywood tank is that ok for SW tank?

Although some might find protein skimmers unnecessary, there very helpful IMO for people that don't have time for constant water changes.

waterchanges dont take that long .. if you dont have time to do a wc you dont need a sw

That depends on how thoroughly you clean the tank or how big it is, sifting through sand, scrubbing the glass, cleaning other equipment, ect. Could take others more time then you and some people don't have the time to do that twice a week. A protein skimmer will give you more time and also keep your water crystal clear. Yet some may find it unnecessary, others find it very helpful.

W/C's in sw not only take just as long as FW but need prep time as well - Takes about 24hrs for the salt to dissolve, stabilize ph, and match temp........... this even before you change or clean anything.

run while you still can!
