Albinoism in hybrids

They appear to have pink eyes.

My hybrid sensor is going off by the way. Other species of Thoricthys have had albinos before but (to my knowledge) not T. meeki. I wouldn't be difficult to cross one Thoricthys species to another and breed the offspring back to T. meeki for a couple of generations....which is the process by which some of the "new" albino African Cichlids were developed all of a sudden (and, of course, sold as one species or another).

My LFS has some albino firemouths in atm and I was wondering if they were to breed with another albino cichlid would or could any of the offspring be albino?

Regardless if these are pure bred albino firemouths or of hybrid creation, they are pretty cool looking. To answer your question - it depends. From my understanding, there are different gene mutations that can cause albinism and if the two albino fish you breed together have the same mutation, then yes it could produce albino fry but even then it is hard to say with hybrids. If the two fish carry different broken genes for albinism then all the fry would likely just look like hybrids of the standard color of either parent fish.

Keep us posted if you buy these!
