Have you ever haggled at a fish store?

Vendors and independent sellers are killing the fish store business. These guys will sell fishes for cheap that the fish stores can't compete. Fish store business is a dying business because of these guys. We need our lfs for so many reasons. There should be a law or a limit of prices.

Yeah, in communist Russia maybe. Some people...

You want to own a fish store and keep up, give me a reason to shop at your store. Why am I going to pay more for lousy quality, less selection, and employees that have no idea what they're doing or talking about? The hobby has changed from 10 years ago and is continuing to do so, and people that want to make a living in the industry either need to change or get out, if that's what their local market is demanding.

If they are a quality fish store they have nothing to worry about. The place i go through import fish every 2-3 days a lot of rare discus and they are doing fine.

I don't have to, my regular LFS always gives it to me cheaper without asking. Show loyalty to a store and they will give you saving when they can.

I agree completely... evolve or die.

There are only a handful of LFS that remain in the DC/Baltimore metro area (an area with a population of nearly 10 million people).

I've haggled to a point, I don't want to see an LFS get shut down by it but then again if I don't feel like the price I'm paying for fish is right more so an expensive one I try and haggle and sometimes on supplies if they start to number in the triple digits. I usually wait for deals or sales anyways. I enjoy talking to knowledgable people at LFS and I enjoy the hobby overall. But as far as evolve or die maybe it was a bad business plan to begin with or bad area or to high a cost to open business in the first place. Idk hate to see them close unless it was a crap shoot to begin with my 2 cents.

All valid responses, and appreciated. I have never personally done this. I have worked in retail settings for the majority of my working life which is why I think the thought never really crossed my mind. I recently walked in my favorite LFS though and they had a fish I'd love to have for a price I'd love to avoid, with even the owners best friend commenting that it was overpriced.

Sometimes.

But usually only if I buy multiple things and know that the fish is slightly overpriced.

Worked to get me $15 off each of my Tem bass I bought locally.

I agree completely Matt
