im sad my pleco died which i believe was to a ph drop it went to 6 over night as amonia is at 0 nitrites 0 nitrates less then 1ppm which is fine but ph was at 6 when i checked so that has to be the cause since my water is great i do 35% water changes weekly so i will proberly get some peacock bass well 1 and what can i do to prevent this happeninging cause i dont want to lose any of my fish especiaaly if i got a stingray
there are two things I would do for ph drop either tiny bit of Malawi buffer but this can change it to quickly bit drastic but does work with water change , best way is to put some coral gravel in your external filter couple if spoon fulls this way it raises the ph gradually so there's no drastic changes (I do this quite often and just top it up when do filter change)
also plecs do die for strange reasons ive had quite a few unexplained deaths with plecs over the years and all diff types not just commons , royals seem to be my downfall ive had four in prob fifteen years none have made it over 6/7"

Hahahaha you'll have to tell your mum you'll bath in it at least that way you'll save her some gas/electric bills
certain stones can be used to stabilise pH and other water parameters. By the sounds of things, you need to prevent pH crashes. If you have a small amount of limestone that can help - will also raise ph slightly. Water hardeners will work in a similar manner.
Sandstone is a good option provided it:
1. Comes from a clean source
2. Doesn't contain too much iron (avoid very deep red colours)
Sandstone is really good because good bacteria can colonise its porous structure
