I have questions about PFS

IME, play sand is too light. It often gets kicked up with bottom dwellers and can clog a filter or get in the impeller chamber and ruin it. I would recommend removing the old sand before adding new PFS. I use PFS in all my tanks. It's heavy enough that it doesn't get stirred up easily. I would recommend a good rinse before adding it to the tank (of course remove the fish to another tank for a little bit). Once added, let it sit unfiltered for about 30 minutes and then turn the filters on and let them run until the water is clear. Once the water is clear (shouldn't take more than 2-3 hours tops if you rinse it well), it is safe to add the fish back.

I just stuck a pre-filter sponge on my intake tubes... I rinse/squeeze them out every week when I do water changes. sand won't get into your filters ever using those.
 
I can't stand the sound. The tanks in my bedroom and it's horrible. I removed the impeller so it was just the metal bar in there, air sprayed it, washed it out with water, everything. Cleaning the impeller. It's not broke or anything it's just making a noise :(

The impeller might have sand stuck in it and if you leave it for too long, it can cause permanent damage. If you clean it out, it might stop making the sound. If that isn't the problem, I really can't give more advice. Do you know where exactly on the unit he sound is coming from?
