My ebjd and bgjd have laid eggs this morning

Thanks everyone...this my first time breeding dempseys and have done my research a little bit...everything was spot on like there will be chasing and the female will get real black but one thing they never did was lip lock like alot of sources had said

Either the eggs hatched in 2 days and shes hiding the wigglers OR she ate them...im a little frusterated right now...maybe ill have better luck the next go around

A lot of cichlids eat their eggs/fry the first 2-5 times. Eventually something will click in their heads and they will get it right. Just roll with it and they will get it right.

Jacks don't hold like a geophagus will. They will relocate their young to a different spot after hatching and then randomly around the tank every 12-24 hours until the fry are free swimming. Then they begin to "herd" them. They move them around because it is part of their parental instinct to keep the fry in different locations to fool would-be predators in the wild (and even a little in the home aquarium).

If you don't see them guarding a specific spot (likely a pit in the substrate), chances are they were eaten.

Have you done anything in the tank since the fry hatched? I.E. moved the male out, changed decor, done anything to spook the parent(s)?
