Western parts of the country, many new areas in Colonia, Soriano, Paysandú, Salto and Artigas. November 23 to December 7, all inclusive trip except airfare and beer, Includes all in country travel, lodging, food, export permits and the best guide in the business Felipe Cantera, www.Aqvaterra.com
Price depends on how many people go, there are base price for the van, gas, lodging ect, so the more people who go the less it cost per person, Between $1400 to $2000 for 2 weeks plus your airfare.
Airfare for me has run around $1200 last 2 trips down from Atlanta, I have paid as little as $800 before but not lately. Other than beer and any gift you might want you don't need money for much else. For some reason people traveling from the West coast have gotten their airfare for less than me the last few years
We will catch more fish than you can imagine, and be able to bring back more than you have tank space for. This trip we are doing new areas in the South Western parts of the country, get fish none else has. Plus the north west which is the richest area in different species in the same area. Amazing places!!

oh man i wanna do this at some point in my life! awesome fish man! got any more pics? maybe of the places you vistied, nature other wildlife?

Folks - going on a trip like this...or specifically this trip... isn't something that needs to be a dream.

Save up some $...and just do it. If you have airline miles, use them for this!

I've been twice and planning to go again next year :)

What sort of things might one expect going on one of these trips? What is needed legally, do you need to be instructed in diving, etc? I'm super interested, the price is right, and it's something I've wanted to do for years - but I have no idea what to expect. Are there any good resources online that describe the collecting method that would be used? I tried to visit the guides website, but th elink seems to be down Thanks!

Ken can give can give you a run-down of what's involved but you don't need vaccinations or any special training / dive certification.

Fishing is via dip nets, cast nets, picking pleco from under rocks, fish rods, seines, you name it.

Uruguay is a wonderful country that's probably safer than the US. Felipe arranges for all of the logistics - driving from site to site, places to stay and eat...everything. You just show up and have fun!

Felipe also makes arrangements with the Uruguayan government for paperwork and inspection of fish you collect (and bring back in your luggage). You'll need this when you go through US customs.

+1 to what Matt said! The only thing I'd add is to get a importers permit (CITIES but not positive on the agency but Ken will know). Apparently recently they have gotten stricter on bringing fish back and these permit are only $100 and ensure you can bring your fish home.

These trips are a BLAST! I've gone twice and didn't want to leave both times! Once I save up more money and have time outside of Grad school I'll be going back!
