Is it normal for them to be fighting alot, they do the lip lock stare down but dont actually lip lock.

Go for it...I dont think it would kill them just check your water parameters to make sure it hasnt killed the beneficial bacteria...they will definetly grow faster with water changes...how many fish and what size tank?

Its a 55g 48"-13"-21", sunsun hw 303b rated for 375g + a sponge with an air pump rated for 200g+another air pump for 100g with an air stone, sand substrate, dw, 1 plant and a 250w heater.

Fish just a con fry, 2 plat jd and a bgjd 2-3"er but hes in a breeder net till I get a divider so he doesnt beat on my plats.
 
Your tank is kind of understocked right now...once a week water changes are enough
