Okay guys I am moving my 18"++ Armatus to his new tank in the next week and want to do it safely. I been hearing about Black Arowanas killing themselves and Armatus death runs and jumps.

I have an extremely bold fish that circles when I come near the tank. I dont want to ever take that for granted since I know it only takes one spook.

I was thinking to take all the tops off and when he circles make a big move on him.

I was wondering what peoples thoughts are at this time. Should I put him in a fish bag for an hour and float him in his new tank or just transfer fast as possible? I don't want him to do a run in the 720 since I am thinking he can get some crazy speed going.

Thanks in advance legends.

Also I will get an accurate measurement!

Can't speak for Armies but in any of my tanks I just scoop and dump since my waters are usually close enough to not matter. I personally wouldn't remove all the tops cause if he takes off it would be easy to have him jump tank through one of the open tops.
I used to remove all my tops when cleaning until my VATF jumped tank on several occasions. Now I just remove where I am cleaning.

Nice one bro thanks for that advice and good idea about the tops!

Try and keep the tops on as I just pulled some pbass from my tank and my VATF jumped out. He was okay but seems they know when the lids are open! LOL

Armatus don't like to be moved but I would try the bag method or rubber net. Make sure the bag is strong as I moved a 21" black arowana like this and once the bag was pulled out he just bolted and shot out the side of the bag. He looked like crap for a while but healed up.

Thanks so much my bro. I was thinking to use a big net. But I like that bag method. Him swimming in it is another story. Any ideas on having him swim in it?

I would also be interested in some horror stories on netting big fish and what to watch our for!

I had an idea of maybe feeding him a fish tranquilizer before all this so he is a little sleepy during the transfer?

I was thinking I can take all the tops off and he can just jump into his new tank

When I have to take my fish out, I get a huge clear bag that fish farms use to transport fish and put it into the tank. It generally doesn't take long for the fish to swim into the bag. Once they're in it, I let some water out of the back so I can pick it up and then I move the fish. Doing it this way might scare the fish but it won't damage them.

If I had to do this with a very large fish, I'd lift the clear bag with a fishing net so that even if the fish pops the bag, I wouldn't drop him.

careful not to get 'fanged' by it. :D
I think the bag method is good. have to see the individual temperament of the fish. normally in my case with arowanas, I use the bag method and a net to just nudge the fish gently into the bag, others I use a fish tranquilizer like Transmore if the fish gets too difficult on me. :D
I can't say for a 18" armatus, since mine now only hitting 6".

When i moved my armatus, i lower my tank water to 25% so the armatus wouldn't have alot of space to struggle. Get a big net and scoop and dump.
