It, in this case is the Central American cichlid, Paraneetroplus hartwegi. The contrast in size of the 13" guarding male to his newly free-swimming 1/8th" fry is quite amazing. The female is in the back corner with more fry, out of the scene.

the nurturing aspect impresses me, even if it is instinct.
they do better than some people ;-)

I really enjoy your posts - it is quite a sight.

I have never had dull posts from him. All his fish are in pairs and breeding. I wonder how many tanks he has and how he managed so many fry.

Thank you.Yes it is.

Glad you enjoy them. I have fun doing them. I do have a lot of pairs, it's true, and most have been raised from young fish. But I have my fair share of problems (losses, etc.) like any other aquarist. It's not all what it looks like. For example, I presently have a beautiful male Hoplarchus psittacus (not my breeder) who is being ravaged by a terrible disease (most likely Columnaris) that is literally eating his face away. Despite medication, it's getting worse. I'll likely have to euthanize him. And so it goes. I've presently got 55 tanks on the go, with my largest being 3- 180G, 1- 165G, and 2- 150G. The rest are 90G and down. I keep fry (too many unfortunately - I've got to get "smarter" about that) but there is a limited market for them in my city (Winnipeg) so I can get overwhelmed at times. Thanks for your interest in my postings. It's appreciated.

yes, your tanks would be a delight to see in person, and I always enjoy your presentation. but alas, your vids & pics will just have to do.
