AGGRESSIVE CICHLID TANK WITH NO AGGRESSION

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ok, so like I asked in the other thread- do the terracotta pots help control nitrates?

Yes massively, if you get proper terracotta with no added lime, it is porous, so the water actually flows through the terracotta.

The denitrifying bacteria need very slow flow, and this provides them with a platform for growth in an oxygen deficient environment with ultra slow flow

its not dare devil, if you do it right anyone can do it!!

thanks though i do think these fish are amazing good quality specimen!

thanks

Dunno really, can't tell any of planning of having a cichlid tank after planning everythin, I came from aro-cat-arapaima-to A-snapping turtle, and having my own channa/ornate tank. But really, It's a hard set up. Do you usually keep the temperature at low level so that it slows the metabolism process and keeps their aggression level low also?

-And now I do know how terracotta do work, but how about once it clog? I mean due overtime it will be clogged cause poop, leftovers, poop, algae and poop will go rotting in there cause it's in the tank and not in a sump, It might mess up your water chemistry in the near future, just saying.

Temp is 27.

No poop will get in, the pours are so small

Cool, is there any way to tell lime free terracotta from lime containing?

Before chasing this dream advice that the OP is spewing, check out all his threads regarding the ammonia issues in his tank. In order to control nitrates the tank would first have to actually produce nitrates. Just a week ago the ammonia in this tank was 8 ppm. The tank is not cycled the terra cotta pots aren't doing anything. These poor fish are too busy dealing with high ammonia too be aggressive.

Again before following this guys advice look at all the thread over the past three months of the problems he's been having with this tank.

WTF? Seriously, those who are asking about this read the comment above mine. And more importantly, the one above that. :)

My cycle crashed, big deal, there was no problem with this tank before that.

Also seachem ammonia alert stats that my toxic ammonia levels are less that 0.02ppm so not really sure what's going on there.

Current starts are free ammonia less than 0.02ppm, non toxic ammonia 4ppm, nitrate 0, nitrite 0.

I'm having issue restarting the cycle site to heavy stock levels. Another 2260 is being purchased and the filter will be cycle on a friend tank then transported to this tank.

Main posts in the lasts 3 months have related to the 2080 crap ability for mechanical filtration, and the sudden death of a festea!

There is nothing with with the health of the fish, they have amazing color and are highly active.
