I'm mainly a bichir keeper, but would like a top-dweller or group of top-dwellers for a 75 gallon tank. Here are some of the factors im considering:
1. doesnt grow larger than 8" or so
2. stays in the mid. to top of tank
3. cant be eaten by bichirs up to 13-14" long
4. not very skittish
5. would still be interested in eating flies/wrigglers. (my tank has good flow rate, but there may be dead spots and i wanna be sure any wrigglers would be eaten.

i've thought of
-snakeskin gourami - but they seem to prefer still waters
-silver dollars - skittish even in groups of 5.
-severum/uaru - tend to stay at the bottom of the tank
-festivum - i get conflicting reports about their suitability.
-tinfoil barbs grow too big, otherwise they sound good.

any suggestions?

If you liked the idea of Tinfoil Barbs, maybe check out Filament Barbs as they stay smaller (around 6in I believe). Your bichir may have a go at them though if you got ones that were on the smaller side..

^ i was thinking this, pink tailed..

Red tail barracuda, red tail chalceus, pacu (although I've only known one person to try that combo, and the PAC got nipped a couple times but not the bichirs)

Bluegrass aquatics has pink tail chalceus for 30 or at least they did last week
