Rairdog tank shots

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Put a couple big male long ears in the tank. A group or 4 or 5 males seems to work best. The females get beat to crap and they pretty much killed every other fish except my black crappie. She runs the roost. Only got decent phone shots of one but they are identical. Of the 5 I raised from last years yoy, 4 are left. Like I said the females and sub males are beat to crap. The dominate male got his but kicked by the new guys. Took a chunk of his ear. He used to pick on everyone and now he just hides.

Overall tank shot. Some think its an eyesore but I like it.

I'm way over stocked if anyone needs LE's lol. The lil woman keeps throwing them in there. The crappie get most of them but too many have survived. The filter has the normal pads and then 2 onion sacks filled with poly fill and pothos for extra filtration. The female LE's get beat up but never seems to die. Since adding the to large male LE's my black crappie which was in perfect shape now has a ragged tail.

Here is my new AP setup. 100 gal rubbermaid tank with 20 BG. The tank is pumped up 7 ft from basement to deck where beds are. Then there are overflows and loop drains back to tank. There is a bypass with spray nozzle for extra air. The beds are filled with expanded shale. I started this project the end of May and had it cycled by June 20 using seeded water and filters and ordinary foot socks. The tomato, pepper and lettuce seedlings were already started. Cucumber seeds came up in less than a week and beans are coming up in a little over a week. Stawberries were root started were just added and greened up over night.

Too dark to get a good shot of gills.

Cucs

Beans

Straw berries

Pepper and Tom's

Hey Rairdog, do you have a YouTube channel? Would love to see you do a video of the tank. It's hard to find good native tanks on YouTube. It would be awesome to see yours.

No youtube channel. I don't even have a video camera. I have tried with phone but it looks like crap.

Got my greenhouse enclosed for the growbeds. I still need to add some battens and seal it up. I have to top it off with about 10 gal a week. I started lowering top off ph with HCL and plants really took off. I have winter leafy crops started and will add another GB to try and keep it going when it turns cold.

Well my new WM took some red worms yesterday. It gave it a some needed energy and is now coming out to explore. This morning I fed the LE some flake and pellets and the Wm came out to investigate. It even swam to the top to take a bite. So far there has been no aggression between the WM and LE's. It even swam up to the glass to check out the camera. To bad the shots aren't the best.
