I'm pretty sure the whole taboo that gator gars are dangerous to people other then in obvious circumstance (like fishing for it, netting one etc) was broken by many biologists. the chance that it could jump and a 20 lb carp could hit you in the face while your cruising in a boat is terrifying, trying to find the article my buddy at work showed it to me one his tablet

Good thing erie is so polluted...those carp dont stand a chance haha. Im all for the re-release of gators to the north, ive been talkin about bringin back ohio gators for years :), its a shame how they were wiped out. I think theyd be fine in the cold, they were before we slaughtered em all.

Wednesday, those things will actually do better in polluted waters since it means more food for them.
Also, Gators from the south may not cope with the cold temperatures.

IMO, the flathead and musky populations should be increased artificially.

That's right, the taboo was broken by biologists, not the public. Too many ignorant people in the public so it don't help Alligator Gar very much. Public believed that snakeheads can walk on the land, attack pets & children and can bite through the steel toe boots. Not mentioned that the public believed that pacus are more dangerous right now because of a freaky case where a pacu ate one of the man's nuts.

Wednesday13, the southern gator gars don't have an adaption to handle the icy cold winters. Northern gator gars are pretty much extinct these days and they could be completely new subspecies of Alligator Gars for we could know but it was too late. Like I said, the last surviving northern gator gar was killed in 1920s.

Besides being non native what is so dreaded about the asian carp? This is my first time hearing of this.

yeah that would be fun but overshot and misses would go flying into the open area of the lake who knows what they'd hit. We just gotta figure out a good way to cook em too, if people start eating em it won't be nearly as bad. there's ways to cook such bony fish.

ah, I should have figured the southern gator gar wouldn't be able to live up here. Is acclimation a possibility? I know people breed peacocks in cold temps to make them resistant, could the same be done overtime to the southern gator gar?
