Hi can anyone help me out I'm looking for a large interesting cichlid up to 16" to house in my tank. I we considering an umbee but I'm not 100% when I'll have the space for the bigger tank it would need.
I've kept, Oscars, green terrors (never any decent ones though), Midas and flowerhorns.
I'm hoping you lot who know more than I do might be able to tell me about something I'm unaware of.
Thanks

Both xCichlasoma bocourti and its close cousin xCichlasoma pearsei reach 16".
They are both primarily vegetarians, and gluttonous, so there is a need over filter, and be a bit of a water change fanatic. They will eat wood, papyrus, and any plant roots and all.
I tend to change at least 100 gallons every other day to keep them in top shape, and use foam fractionation for filtration on their tank.
Bocourti

Female rio mag or magnum x umbee, Haitiensis male or pair, or a Chancho or Hoga would be my picks for large personable cichlids

Well - what size tank are you starting with ? And you should plan ahead if you already know you need to upgrade.

Agreed.........can't make a suggestion without knowing what you're planning to keep it in. Gallons/footprint.

Well, he did ask for up to 16 inch long fish so I would assume hes got at least a 125 or 150.
