Why MS-SEC?
because it's free and it integrates perfectly with windows
Symantec Higher end products hogs the CPU
Norton sucks
McAfee is substandard
All the freeware ones are full of adware pop up crap begging for money
Malware AntiBytes is just a far superior addon that assists with malware and popups. best one I have ever used in the past 15 years.

I use advast and malware bytes. My network administer teachers introduced them to me. I haven't seen better since.

i have Malwarebytes... and i like what you said about using microsoft security essentials........ sounds good...and you are so right about the others begging for money...lol....
Microsoft Security Essentials is the best of the free ones hands down, no question about it.
For higher retail level paid ones, Kaspersky is pretty darn good but you have to know a fair bit about your computer, as it asks for permisson a lot for stuff and you want to know what you are saying yes to and what you don't. Good for high risks sites like Facebook though. Resources heavy.
Norton 360 is easier for non computer folks to use, but also quite resource heavy. Norton has done a good job cutting back on resource usage the last few years compared to where they used to be where you wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole.
I run the mid level norton you get from Comcast and Malwarebytes (everyone should have this on their comp as their passive scan) but I never go onto high risk sites like facebook. I do have a gaming rig that has resources to burn though. On say a laptop I probably wouldn't use Norton.

Not anymore. The iphones screwed you guys that way. Still rare, but not impossible anymore.
