how big of a tank is needed for convicts to breed like SOB's ? would a 30gallon (30lx12wx18h) be large enough to house a far load of em ? I would like em to grow to about 1-2" before they get used as food....and can I just use a sponger filter in the tank ? or do I need a HOB ... do convicts eat there babies or would they eat the smaller ones once they see them when there growing or ?

A 30 gallon tank would be great for a pair. You wont be able to keep the fry in the tank for long. When the parents are ready to breed again, they will kill any juvies left over. The juvies are considered a threat to the new batch of fry. You will need another tank to grow out the juvies.
well what can I breed that I can just have in the tank and leave em all go couple fish one day then like 6 months later 100 kinda thing lol ?
Not all parents kill off their previous batch before spawning again. I had a pair in a 10 gallon that kept spawning and just kept the older fry on the other side of the tank. I'm not saying they didn't eat any of them but it wasn't enough to make a big difference in the hoard they produced. With plenty of hiding spaces they previous batches should be fine in a 30. But guppies and mollies would probably be the "better" route to take.
That is true but at the same time the fry of whatever fish you choose to feed them shouldn't be their whole diet. So its not like he will need thousands monthly. He should have a staple pellet of some kind to feed them for the most part. When I fed live fish they where more like treats and not part of the daily diet. So Rob how often do you plan on feeding them fish?
