The kid probably could have thrown the ball hard enough to cause the heart attack as long as it hit in that exact millisecond... No the bat's material didn't make a difference.

I just think that the reason it was settled was because the bat was not little league approved, "a metal bat that is better then the best wooden bat"...

all metal bats are better then the best wooden bat. why the bat makes a difference is the MPH coming off the bat as opposed to a legal little league approved bat effects the pitcher's reaction time. no it's not guaranteed but it's more likely that the ball would not have reached the kid at the same speed and hit him and caused cardiac arrest.

truth is, coaches should stop teaching kids to "just throw it right down the middle". rarely do you see a low pitch or a high pitch hit right back at the batter. it's possible with inside/outside pitches depending on where the batter's standing and his reach but you don't throw it right down the middle in the pros/college/minor league, why do we teach kids to throw it down the middle at the lower levels as they're learning the game

good thing the bat that was used didn't have the name Monster on it or Monster Energy would be suing Little League also

....and,too bad Monster Energy does not own the bat manufacturing company and The Sports Authority.

I just want to throw in that.. 14 million sounds like a lot but if the kid is brain damaged and young, caring for him for his whole life is really expensive. Transportation, machines, nurses etc. My uncle sort of had the same thing happen but not with a public event and his wheel chair costs 10,000 dollars and he needs a new one every 1 to 2 years due to it just wearing out since you can't just buy parts like wheels etc at home depot. If this kid is the same he could potentialy spend a million dollars or more on wheelchairs.
