Day 1 with the Retic

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It could be a retic but the base colors is so dark, you can't tell. He might just be a hybrid of a common ray, normally the come out if it was a bad mix of two rays but only the breeder would truly know. But I'm kind of digging the dark almost black color! Fatten him up and he's going to be cool when he's grown up! People also say mine wasn't a retic so who really knows haha

I would Add the ammo remover, do you have friends w/ tanks? They could give you a piece of bacterially colonized sponge. Bacteria is what converts ammonia to nitrate, then you take out nitrate with water changes. If this is possible, put the colonized material into the tank ASAP. I'd even ask the guy you got it from and explain the situation maybe the LFS will give you some colonized material.

I'd go with the ammo remover though, it will convert the ammo into ammonium that won't hurt your ray so much. And the developing bacteria will be able feed off it.

thats good to hear man! try and get him on other foods as bloodworm doesnt have much nutritonal value to a fish that size, black worms maybe?

Hey guys just a two week update on the Ray. He's happy healthy and eating well. Also he's not as black any more. He's a bit lighter with a distinct pattern.

Notice the difference in his hip bones (or lack there of)

I agree, once you get him to eat a good staple pellet, I think this ray will be with you for a long time. Congrats
