P. endlicheri wants to get out

I have, well my endli have, a little problem..
The last week at nights he wants to get out of the tank..during the day all quiet, eating as usual, resting under root...at nights he seeks hole in lid where could escape..
He is 12" in 120g tank ( 5' x 18" footprint)..tank upgrade is on its way but im afraid he might kill himself before it arrives..

Any suggestion?

What's in the tank with him? I'm wondering if he's being stressed out. Poly's do come up for air sometimes so he could just be doing that. Does he ever hit against the lid?

that's pretty normal, fish will always try to escpae. u need to make sure that everything is secured
 
Bgk, ornate, 3 ropefishes and one IT...all are smaller and he is the beast in tank..they share same root, ropes are swimming all over him, ornate always follows him (endli just bites his tail to go away)..during the day is all calm but at nights surface splashes like he is insane..does that few times in an hour and then all quiet till morning..
I saw him starring at lid as he was checking where could go out and the burst onto surface..hit lid few times already..

I know but in a week every single night?
Water parameters are kept the same, i just got rid of peat and use oak extract instead..

how much space do you have between the water line and the top of the tank?
