Would a Dovii and a Vieja synspilum be compatible

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Dovii and any fish typically aren't compatible. What size tank and fish we talking about?

They would go in the 120 my dovii is in all the fish are juvies like 2-3''

Short term maybe but syns aren't know for being aggressive or able to handle aggression at small sizes. Also the dovii will more than likely out grow them then murder them.120 isn't big enough for a single dovii.dimensions?

I mean of course I'm not keeping them in there long term that is not what I am asking... I just wanted to get some dither fish for my male because he is beating up on my female and I like the coloration of the Vieja synspilum. Wondered if anyone tried to keep these two species together before?

I'd be hesitant to use another large growing cichlids as a dither use convicts instead. Syns would get pulverized if there is a pair,I doubt they'd last out more than a few days. My father had a single male dovii in our 125 for a time because it killed everything else including mates and a two different syns larger than itself

Well I have a lot of rock formations for hiding spots. LOVE ROCKS!!! The tank is heavily planted and always has a school of rosie reds. Think I'll see what happens over the next couple days. Hopefully my juvie male dovii will have enough distractions with all of that. If all hell breaks loose ill just throw them in with my JD. Love the vieja synspilum colors think they compliment the dovii's coloring very well.

Just watch them and be ready to pull them before they get shredded

I'll update on how its going in a couple days. If anyone has done this I would like to hear your experiences.

Just save your money. It won't work for long. Trust me on this one. You may or may not get away with it for a little while but unless the tank is really big or very overstocked, it will not work for long. And the really overstocking option won't work long either. In anything short of a 600+ gallon tank, it's just running on borrowed time.
