I think the problem is, that the inch per gallon rule is still advocated in places. Books I've read, for example, state this. Not many say it only works for small fish, and I've never seen one say per square inch. Someone could buy a book, read it and think they are researching/being responsible, but be misled to the wrong way.

The sticky in the general aquaria section was the first time id seen it in text. otherwise it was word of mouth. Good sticky but no one checks the general aquaria stickies
