My young group of 6 arrived this morning in great condition. These Damba have been at the top of my wish list for as long as I can remember! They're already swimming around together and sand sifting. Its hard to believe these little ones will be so large as adults. I'm leaving them alone to settle in a bit and will have better pics soon.

Sending a very big thanks to Jeff for making this addition possible!

Please send up dates on these. I had a group of six a couple of years ago and the slowley but surley killed each other. They were great for a while until they started growing and then they picked each other off. Good luck as these are really cool fish.

Nice..I've always wanted one of these.

A group of 6 is a great number, mine got along fabulous until I started messing with their hierarchy. Takes them a few years to get big, but when they do they are really impressive.
The one below was about 14"

Thanks Duane. Yes, I remember asking you about that incident. You removed the dominant male right?

Thanks for the heads up. I'll certainly be updating as they grow. What size tank were they in and how big were they when they started to become too aggressive? Can you pinpoint anything specific that triggered the violence? For example, I think when Duane removed his dominant male all h**l broke loose..

They are a magnificent species and a great 'get'. My pair bred four times before I 'lost' my female. I started with about 200 from two successful spawns (have gradually distributed them), and I presently have about 50 young ones growing out (about 3-4") so their future is secure in my tanks. I'm eventually going to whittle the number down to a dozen or so.

I removed a pair showing signs of spawning, to what I thought would be a less stressful tank, because they had eaten all previous spawns.
Major miscalculation on my part.
The move destroyed their pair bond, and when I tried to return them to the main tank all hell broke loose between all 6.

Nice pickup I seen one last year at the Oca convention and had no clue as to what it was.
