yea the majority of fans and mma sites had Hendricks winning

I can see that, but I thought gsp edged it. if Hendricks won i would've been ok too because it was close.

I'm just biased against gsp from way back to his ultimate fighter days. So of course I wanted him to lose. I do wish I had hit a bar to watch it now though so I could rant about it more.

i do see that gsp has lost a step, i feel his winning streak will be broken any time now. i felt the same way about Anderson silva. those guys are slowly going down hill. i think all the years of gym time, constant pressure, being in the spotlight, dealing with fans, etc takes a toll on you

btw, biggest upset was Robbie lawler!! wow, good for him. rory started fighting really conservatively and got really boring in his last couple of fights. i still think he could've stopped bj penn. it's good for him to lose. maybe he'll fight more like he did before

Yeah, good to see Lawler still around and winning.I wasn't aware he was still competing or even on the card.

Did anyone watch the same fight I did? Hendricks out muscled the greatest 170# champ there has ever been... He dominated and did more damage. This is a fight. Look at Georges face... I had Johnny 1,2,4
GSP 3,5

I never thought for even one moment that George was keeping the belt. This is why the judging in MMA needs a serious restructuring. What ever happened to octagon control? Hendricks dictated every position in the fight. And pushed the action. I was dumbfounded when the decision was read. Striking was even except when you look at the damage that was inflicted by Johnny. Johnny was never in trouble... Can you say the same thing for George?

Ya, I had round 1, 2, and 4 for Hendricks. When the strike totals per round are close, you have to give it to the guy who did the most damage. Awesome fight though. I heard GSP is debating retirement.

How about Lawler whooping on Rory? I thought he looked really good, and carried his punching power well into the 3rd round. Rory is a really good wrestler, and Lawler did a great job keeping it on the feet. Lawler vs Condit would be a solid scrap.

I never get tired of seeing Koscheck getting rocked.

Mini Pettis looked pretty good for his first showing.

I think the problem with fans and the scoring system is this. there is nothing in the scoring system that states that how someone looks during or after a fight should determine the winner. only in pride (not sure about other over seas organizations) they scored the fight as a whole and not on a round by round 10 point system

the way pride judged the fights, yes, Hendricks would be the clear winner. over all he did more damage and had gsp in trouble. but in the 10 point system, how much damage someone takes or how much they bleed or get bruised in one round makes no difference in the scoring of the next round or the fight as a whole. you can get busted up in one round, lose the round and still out point someone to a decisive victory but still physically look like you were on the losing end of an ass whoopin

each round must be judged and scored independently from the rest. if you want to argue who won, then break down each round as to why one fighter outscored the other fighter. I saw a clear win for gsp in rounds 3 and 5 and a clear win for Hendricks in 2 and 4. round 1 was the close one. I also remember round 2 that after gsp got hurt, he recovered and was outstriking Hendricks for the rest of the round so you can even make an argument there as well.

I'm gonna rewatch the fight and score it round by round when I can. but initially after the fight was over, I thought gsp edged it

Maybe I have my rounds mixed up... In overall striking they were pretty even. But literally what it means when someone else is busted up is the effective striking was far more effective from Johnny. Period. The octagon control was better from Johnny. I'm a huge GSP fan. But he got beat. How are you watching the fight again? Priatebay.se is my preferred torrent website. My PC is down at the moment or I would watch it again my self.

Sucks for his personal life. It definitely looked like he was lacking something but it could just have been how beastly Hendricks' wrestling is and his punching power. I feel the same way with the rounds as the general sentiment. Four pretty obvious ones and one very close one. I felt like GSP probably should have lost but as a fan of his, I can't be too upset because I don't feel like Hendricks was completely robbed. But I'm not one that counts how someone looks very much and am not one that feels like you should have to dominate a champ to beat them. I hate to see him take time off because I think he will have a hard time with all the long fights he's been in and his age catching up to him, but maybe he will come out better if he gets his personal life in order.

The surprise for me was definitely Lawler. I feel like rorie is the future of the division and his background and style are the future of mma as a whole but I couldn't help but cheer for the old school.
