Hey Yall,
Has anyone ever fed their RTCs mice or live shrimp? Any other interesting foods?
My catfish live on a diet of mostly feeders, tilapi, and beefheart and i want to mix it up. I have no doubt they would eat live mice but don't know if that ok for them? Anyone got any other suggestions?

I throw left over squid from my saltwater tank to my catfish. Krill will work too. I like using the frozen variety cubes. Figure it's a little bit of everything, except mice. I don't think they use mice in it. Just go through the frozen section at the petshop and grab whatever you think will work. I go to the baitshop or asain market. At least by me all the frozen food at the petshop is smalle the i would like to use.

If you wanted to mix it up you should go for frogs, since they are not detrimental to the health of the fish and usually some native specie is in their natural diet as it is. I use African clawed frogs for my bichirs as live treats sometimes

Good to see that no one's bragging about giving their cat hot dogs on this thread yet.

The local Asian market sells live bullfrogs, maybe when my cats are giants I'll grab a couple.

Some of those places have live frogs and turtles here too but they are kept in pretty bad conditions so I'd be leery about feeding them to my fish. They could pass on some type of sickness.

i like the idea of frogs. My catfish seem to really enjoy live food and are much more active because of it. I hand feed them all sorts of other stuff as well but i will try frogs. I keep anything that is going to be fed to them, that's living, in a quarantine tank for a week with heavy UV and over filtration. During that time i usually fatten whatever that might be up a bit. My cats are only about 18" long but man do they eat. I avoid over feeding them and usually only feed them once or twice a week and an occasional snack.
Thanks for all of the great advice! I am going to check out the local Aisian supermarkets and fish stores.
A buddy of mine has been breeding guppies and uses them as oscar food. I tried it and the cats eat too much for me to get a decent school going, anyone got any other interesting live foods? My friend lives in galveston and i have considered getting live saltwater shrimp and throwing them in. They would only be alive for minutes tops because of the freshwater but the cats would eat them all by then anyways.

mine love nightcrawlers.. but that's more nutrition based then "cool" factor. Only other live I feed is goldfish.. and that's because my gar eat them. otherwise I just hunt the seafood cases for whatever looks yummy. darn critters eat better then we do some days... How about go fishing? I do this in the summer to help save on spending my money on a better over-all quality diet for them. I saved a lot from the perch run last spring to feed my gar and big cats. cost effective and well fishing is fun lol.
