In search of Australoheros oblongum

So I have been looking for some Australoheros oblongum since I got my red ceibals a few weeks ago. I have done some research and realize that they are basically extinct in the wild, so captive bred is going to be my only route to get some.

I found a guy selling them on Aquabid, but he only ships USPS Priority (2-3 business days) and only ships on Saturdays (which means a Tuesday to Wednesday delivery). He also doesn't guarantee the fish, so it's a big gamble that I don't think I want to take with it being winter time and them being cooped up for 3-4 days.

Does anyone know of anyone or anywhere else selling these fish?

I've purchased from Tiedyman on Aquabid on numerous occasions, including a group of Australoheros sp. oblongum, and have had zero problems with shipment. His packing is excellent - the bags of fish are securely wrapped with thick, soft insulation and then packed tightly in a reasonably sized box. I haven't lost a single fish in shipment from Tiedyman (he's in Indiana, I'm in Idaho). This seller is one that always draws my attention on Aquabid because he often has hard-to-find stock, he communicates well, and I've had no problems in shipment. Keep in mind that Australoheros are pretty tolerant of cooler temperatures. I doubt you will experience any problems.
 
They may or may not be extinct in the wild ... the people that did the first catching/exporting/importing never reported the location. We have no clue where they are from. Given they seem more heat tolerant than the other Australoheros ... the current theory is they were found in Southern Brazil somewhere. Which with their restrictions, means we might not find out. And they can't be formally described without a type locality.

I've wanted some fish from him too, but have the same concerns about lengthy shipping w/no live guarantee. We're having 10 degree lows here now. but regardless, I use next day shipping for fish.
Maybe we could coordinate on him shipping more than one pkg off via faster ETAs.
?
not all his stock are cool temp friendly.

That may be true, but when you love on a budget, $50 is a lot to gamble on trusting someone you don't know to do a good job. There is a lot that could go wrong and it makes me feel warm and fuzzy to have a guarantee for his work. I can understand taking up loses with the carrier if the fish arrive dead because the package was damaged or didn't arrive on time, but if they arrive dead when the carrier did nothing wrong, I end up getting screwed. But I have trust issues, so....

That is very interesting to know. Everything I have read is that they haven't been found in the wild in many years and they believe the species went extinct.

I have expensive taste in this hobby, which explains why a lot of the fish I really like are from Brazil. LOL I have heard from several importer about how big a PITA it is to get stock out of Brazil with all the red tape their government throws on everything.

I asked him a couple days ago if he did overnight shipping and he refused, stating that Priority was the most effective method of transportation. Not entirely sure what that means, but the vague statement was enough to convince me that I didn't want to risk having the fish die and be out $50. I am luckier than you are in the weather department. Living in a Florida means that lows wouldn't be enough to kill this species. LOL
