it's my birthday and my dad bought me a bichir. i dont know wht type it is but i think it's an ornate. im new to these fish, and would need some advice on how to keep it. now it's only 2" long, and a bit stress from tht long drive. it's now in a 33g tank with sand substrate, also with some tilapia fries in it. do i have to put fake plants in it? and do they eat sinking pellets and earthworms? how do i feed them? :help2:

move the fry if you want them to survive
lol. Ornates are very predatory

hhmm, yeah. i'll be moving them later. i dont confirm it as an ornate. i'll post a pic 2moro to let u guys see him. but for now, any tips on how to take care of it?

Pellets and chopped earthworms are fine. Post a pic when you can for an ID. I would move the fry asap or it will have plenty to eat. They are very cool fish I think you'll enjoy it. Happy Birthday!

okay, thanks man . :D if it does eat the fries i have plenty more in stock. hahah i just put him in the tank, and he just like lays in the bottom like tht. is it normal? is he just stressed from the long drive? im worried tht he might die.

I'm sure it is just stressed, as long as you acclamated him to your water. It will take a while for it to become comfortable in the new tank. When they are young they like to hide. Somtimes in the upper corners or under some decor, that's normal for them.

so when they are stress they wont eat right? how long will it get use to his new tank? now he just likes to sit on the bottom low corner. and should i change the water? it's a bit cloudy.

If the water is cloudy you need to change the water more or your take has not fully matured through the bio cycle
