Flowerhorn and Jag in the same tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'd keep the divider ready, female jags get very abusive during breeding. I've had females beat and corner bigger males in a 125. I'd be worried taking away a foot of escape room

Thanks guys i just built the stand for the 100 today. Time to clean out the 100 and put it on the stand and fill it so the stand can some what "break in" or flex a little bit if needed then level it. Ill surely use a divider and see how they act to one another for a couple weeks.

If they wont get along ill just put the jag back in her 75 and keep the fh in the 100 but thats the worst case.

I still agree with some that if your jag is 20inches you need a larger tank for it. Time to find it a larger setup.

I might have fudged the size a bit. Shes probably 16 inches at the greatest. When she turns she likes to slap the glass with her tail so my observation is kinda blurred if you would say. I was planning to put her in the 220 but my jar* is a bit small and I dont think they would get along.

I'd risk the jar lol. A jag of that size could swallow a 5-6 inch fish. And if she decides she doesn't like the flowerhorn no matter how scrappy he is he will lose

Can we see a pic of this female? Males rarely get close to 20 inches let alone a female

I used a flash light cause the tanks light is out lmfao..
Here are some not so great pictures of her.

Theres a 300watt heater for a size comparison. So shes around the size of the heater i guess

Haha i love my jar way to much to risk it. My jag is really nice now days and i was thinking it can work. Never shows aggression now days and doesnt even hurt feeders lol

My male doesn't touch feeders either but he is the reason my 125 looks empty and I'm rehoming one of my fish soon. My other cichlids hide for the most part because the tank is his and they are basically tenants to him. Just because a cichlid won't touch a feeder doesn't mean it won't rip another fishes face off

True lol, sorry for the size confusion though. Does your jag try to bite you? My jag used to but now i can grab her face and she doesnt really mind, she just puffs up her gills and looks at me like thats rude lol. Best bet is divider or should i grow out the fh a little more to around 8-9 inches and then try? I'm kinda scared if i dont try it soon my fh will be "too old" to be able to live with other fish and kill everything.
