creepy gills hanging out !

lol my bichir's gills are coming out ! looks some kind of disease or sumthing, but i do some research tht it's quite common. is it though? and am i the only one? what does this happen actually? it's very creepy and just makes me wanna cut it. hahah need some info from the experts .

Did you just get it? And when Polypterus are young they have external gills while their swim bladders and lungs are forming.

Don't cut them . They will go away eventually once your bichir develops into an adult.

well kinda, he's about 3" . i thought tht he's injured or sumthing . lol thanks for the feedback.
