The only polys I've ever kept that still had them were always 2" or smaller except my albino sen. At an inch it already absorbed them. I personally like the look when they have them.

Reminds me of my Axolotl :). Of the 4 polypterus I have, my first (del) and biggest one only has them. He is currently 4+ inches and growing super fast. Ask the other ones came with them off.

tilapia? live ones? u nver feed him earthworms? im having problems giving mine to feed on pellets. lol

talapia fillets lol. earthworms are too big of a pain to find. There are other food that are just as good to feed bichirs than worms.

my weeksi was kinda strange. it never grew for the 2 years that I had him. I got him at 4 inches or so and after 2 years, it was roughly 5.5 inches. By then a weeksi should push one feet.
i have no idea what was wrong. He was wild caught I fed him food each day and did a 50% WC each weeksi. He was in a 75 gallon tank. i assume he was a dwarf or runt since I got a 4 inch weeksi in a pile of 10 inchers.

i sold him about 2 months ago.

How many other bichir in a 75g tank? How much food everytime you feed them? Does it eat a lot? 50% water change may not be enough and phermones level in your tank is too high. Fish release pheromones in the water as a self defense against outgrowing the environment that it lives in. It one of the major cause of fish being stunted. Only way to get rid of it is by doing more water change. The more fish in the tank, the more pheromones level. 2 years and it should be around 16-18"+, especially it was a wild caught.

there was 3 bichirs in total in a 75 gallon tank. one CB delhezi, one weeksii, and 1 retro. I fed them talapia, salmon and hikiri pellets each day. 50% WC every Friday. The water is always clear when I do WC. i've always thought about the pheromones that could be stunting their growth but they never seen stress from the large space that they had for themselves. the thing is, they never seemed hungry. I think the biggest reason they didn't grow isbecause they never eat. I tried epsom salts to rid of anything in the stomachs.

could of also been birth defect since they were the only "runts" in a huge pile of 12 inchers in the petstore of WC bichirs.
