Plants are dying

Just so your informed WPG doesnt mean anything. Because theres different light fixtures. For example compare watts of leds to florescent bulbs, you have 200watts or florescent the wpg rule means you need 200watts of led? Waaaaaaaaay to much

Thats just one example and also even something as simple as a reflector can make that rule obsolete!

Anything with high par readings and lumens needs co2 or your begging for algae.

And OP your problem was most definitely the spectrum of your bulb 2800k is perfect for algae, this is the temp i use with my algae scrubbers.

I dnt know about it exactly.
I just saw this on a fish forum and posted here.
I think it is not entirely false

Its entirely false. Water depth, substrate, light reflectors, wattage, kelvin, type of bulb and many other factors make WPG obsolete!

Just because you 'googled' it doesnt alawys mean its right, so before posting wrong advice that may kill plants or spread serious algae do more research!

Some members here will take your advice for what it is without realizing its false!

I think he was just trying to help.
Those numbers were good about 10 years ago.
With all the new light technology, things have changed.

Sorry Bro, but kinda have to agree with the above, a lot of the lighting tech only started to really advance in the last few years, so a lot of people still believe the old rule to be true, unless they themselves have recently got into or upgraded their tanks...

Even i believed that old rule till i really got into planted tanks... So yeah, we all just try our best to help each other...

So lets try and keep the planted section reasonably friendly since it is a steep learning curve...

Does anyone know what kind of plant that is in the middle of the tank, the bushy one, seems to grow really good on nothing and grows about a 1" a day
