Hydrolycus armatus wounds after transport !

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I put 1/2 teaspoon of TT oil to an empty 16oz Melafix bottle. Use distilled water.

Dude the savings is a lot more than $7! Do the math.

Maybe $10? The largest bottle of melafix is about $14. If he has the ingredients on him then go for it but I was just saying imo. Any money saved is a good thing though, I agree with you. Either way, I never use Melafix. I use salt and clean water.

There are 6 teaspoons in an ounce. For a 4 oz bottle of TT oil it costs like $10. You could make 48 bottles of Melafix with a 4oz bottle of TTO. How much does one bottle of Melafix cost?

keep in mind, there can be a significant difference between herbal "extracts" and herbal OILS. extracts will diffuse evenly throughout water.
There is a reason for the saying "oil and water don't mix". I would not put medicinal oils in tank systems, they are highly concentrated and without proper dilution, direct contact with delicate/raw tissues and gills could be risky.
Just my opinion.

I agree , with this diy mix surely can't have the same result as the original medicine , exactly for the reason you say.
Although there must be at least a partial bond of them.
But it's worth the try carefully , especially if no access to melafix is possible and things are urgent.
Does anyone know any "safe" fish way to achieve the complete bond of tea tree oil and water ?

Yea this seems like amonia burns. Ive never seen it so bad. But melafix works perfect along with a lot of water changes. I treated daily with melafix and you should see improvements quickly.

SeaChem StressGuard is what I use for injuries, when something more than freshwater changes are needed. It is the most advanced product approach for wound care.
It does have to be dosed daily to remain effective.

"StressGuard does not contain anything to "irritate" fish into producing more slime. What makes StressGuard very successful at healing is the fact that it contains protein active colloids. This protein active colloidal agent actively seeks out any wounds, abrasions, or places where exposed proteins are and attaches to this area to help directly deliver the disinfectant in the product and start the healing process. This protein active colloid, because it binds to the exposed proteins, also acts like a liquid bandage to the abrasion."

Unfortunately hydrolycus armatus didn't make it..... survived only for 5 days , getting worse day by day , used salt and diy melafix , as couldn't find there original melafix (was sent at an island).

Here are the photos from the temporary owner and a video. :irked:
