Just picked up a Dovii/wolf from lfs

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
IMO only, That Dovii, if male, might claim the whole 240g by himself. Good luck with that little guy!!

Are they that much more aggressive than a jaguar? I honestly thought jaguar were more aggressive than them? I have 1 6in jaguar in my 240 and he gets along with my 2 tiger Oscars both 6-7 in.

The jag is being nice cause its still small and young once it hits maturity and gets around the 10 inch plus mark it may decide to not play so nice. Dovii are IMO the most aggressive cichlid around and they get bigger than jags usually. Dovii are notorious for being incapable of living with things beside a mate.

Agreed, that dovii will either kill or seriously injure all of those tankmates as soon as he's of a size where he can impose his will. They don't get along well with other tankmates, even of their own kind. He might be OK up until around 4" or so, but after that you're going to have to figure out alternate living arrangements.

The Dovii and Jag will both become pretty aggressive and large too... can it work? Maybe. If I were to bet on it working... I would say that it will not with those two types of fish. I have a smaller Jag, actually two, growing out right now in an aggressive community and I think eventually I will need to re-home them. I will not even try with a Dovii... I did once and at about 6 or 7" it was getting too aggressive for my other fish and he was the smallest too. Again, this is just me and I'm sure everyone else has their own story, but I'd be willing to bet most of these stories go something like mine and not the other way around. Again, good luck to you.

ime jags arnt that aggressive, iv always been able to keep a jag in a community and almost everything from a dempsey, devil, oscar, festae would put it in its place, not much of a fighter but a voracious eater. it would nip at other fish during feeding but after that it was back to the bottom of the totem pole. unless its considerably larger then the others then i find jags are pretty peacful. Now dovii on the other hand i couldnt even keep a pleco with my male at 5 inches in a 90 gallon tank. killed his first female then finally accepted the second. and even now ever so often he flips out on her and she hides in her log for a day or two.

My Jag is about 9-9.5" right now and literally JUST started attacking the gravel vac and glass banging in the last month... up until then I woulda agreed with u 100%. Now? Not at all... The larger aggressive new world cichlids just aren't community fish.

Iv only had one large male at 13 14 inches and he was pretty docile. More like an oscar. My 7 inch female was just territorial over her one cave and my other two 3 inchers are just glutinous wussies lol
