Dovii claiming tank

Not long, shouldn't take more than a week for the scales to heal up. For the fins specifically to grow out fully maybe a little longer. Don't forget to dose appropriately with aquarium salt during water changes.
 
I think youre going to have to decide if you want a dovii or a whole community of fish. You cant really have both Ive tried and so have a bunch of others and it never works out without there being many casualties. The pleco should be fine for a while but eventually that will end without warning too. Long term dovii just cant be kept with other fish. That's just how it is.
 
from my male dovii experience. They're pretty docile until the 7-8" mark then start sizing up & assassinating anything it can. Even if it's bigger a dovii is smart enough to wait until he knows he can over power the other fish. It's just a fish that requires a lot of space.

That jag has been through the ringer. It really needs to be placed in a hospital tank & provided with plenty of fresh water. I'd recommend changing 50% per day. Atleast you got a warning I lost 6 decent size sd's, 2x rtms, & a trimac to a male dovii along with a male jag in a 180 (all around 6-7") overnight. Ripped everything to shreds.
 
I think I will just turn the tank into a Dovii only tank. Dovii is what I have wanted for a while, so I will just have to deal with the fact that he doesn't play well with others.
 
your lucky to have a pleco in there, mine wont allow anything except his female in teh tank. i would lvoe a pleco tho since algae jsut started covering my glass
 
Dovii CANNOT be housed with anything or he will tear them to shreds. Iv been there and lost $$$ of dollars because of one. My 13" male even killed a 16" female dovii within min of entroducing her to the tank. I was like you and wanted one bad but after a year of trying different fish and loosing all to him I gave up and gave him away. Good luck if you keep him. FYI make sure all openings are covered with plexi glass or he will jump out or break lids. The only thing I loved about mine was his personality. He would swim to me with no aggression but anyone else that go near the tank he would thrash around showing his massive teeth and actually scared people from going near the tank.
 
if u like the female jag and want to keep her with the dovii it COULD work in the future just not yet. I would keep them separated then in a few months when they both gain more size and vitality you should re-introduce the female jag but heres the catch your gonna have to be real crafty about the hiding spots I would suggest a hiding spot were only SHE cud get in and also a divider that gives her 1/3 of the tank were only she could fit through if she needs to escape. ive seen female jags and male doviis co-exists and hey u might have some cool hybrids to pass around to ur buddys. n also wen u reintroduce them take them both out and put the female jag in first then the monster dov. keep us posted :popcorn:
