I have the chance to get a 6-7" wild C. lenticulata for $75, but am wondering if I can keep it for life in a 75. I have read several profiles and a few discussions with most agreeing 12" is average with large specimens reaching 15".

If it can live in a 75, would water of a 7.4 pH be okay even though they come from more acidic conditions?

Sweet. Thanks for the help. I definitely don't intend to put it in with any other fish since I have heard they are mean.

Do you guys think it will be okay in my water? Values are:
7.4 pH
7 GH
9 KH

Out of curiosity, how are they as far as mating goes? Are they like most aggressive cichlids that beat on each other a lot or do they bond strong? Obviously I would never attempt a pairing in a 75, but might consider it if I get a 6' tank.

Also any care info you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Specifically I am interested in best types of food (brand of pellet, live food, etc?) and decor (sparsely decorated or heavily?).

The pH should be fine. It's not ideal being wild caught especially. I feed my pikes shrimp, tilapia and NLS pellets mostly.
I wood put some driftwood in. It will help lower the pH and they like having places to hide. You could put some ketapang leaves in too.

I came to the pike section to get info on lents too haha. Can I assume its the ones Snookn has on Aquabid that drew you in? That's where my curiosity came from.

Very great fish ..highly intelligent but very very aggressive..

Well my tap comes out at 7.8 pH, but drops to 7.4 in my 75 with driftwood already in the tank. I am thinking about adding some more driftwood to maybe drop it a tiny bit more.

I have been looking into peat moss as a possible way of dropping pH a bit. The issue I have is I don't have a way to "pre-treat" the water before a water change and even if I did, it would put me back to the bucket method of changing water, which kills my back (I love my Aqueon water changer). LOL

I have read about using some kind of alder (sp?) cone or a type of broad leaf (might be what you are talking about) that will soften and/or lower the pH of the water. Any ideas where I can get some?

Maybe.... :) I do plan to get one from John as long as I can properly care for it. But I got the idea from his website, not Aquabid. I have a half dozen stock list websites I check regularly for rare fish.

I've never been much of a pike fan but those lents did catch my eye, along w/ the all red pike of course. John had a really good shipment - some really nice angels and some awesome royal heckel cross discus. Good luck with the pikes!
