To to be honest. I know that I have a very low tech setup. I can't even tell you how good my lights are. What I for the main light is just a 48 inch shop light fixture with two of the aquarium and plant bulbs from Wal-Mart.And it being a corner tank, on the back I have just a standard 18 inch aquarium fixture with an 18 inch aquarium and plant bulb from Wal-Mart. Lights are on about 12 hours a day as well. For algee, the only place I ever see it start up is on the glass. And at the moment, I don't have any Co2 on it.It may be your camera but the majority of light appears to be towards the front of the tank and on the front glass. The back and middle looks very dim and that's where the most plant mass is.
If you are running co2 over 1-2bps I would add lighting or just find a cheap tank/regulator setup. Steady consistent co2 is important to avoid algae issues w/ med/high lighting!
Nice tank tho! Digging the puffer
Ok just looked at new pics, must have been your camera! BTW I have the lg optimus G, best phone I've had, but there's an air gap between the glass lcd and digitizer so any drop can and will crack the screen! Gone thru 2 in 5 months even with case/screen armor, finally got on otterbox so it should be good.

Yes it is an all sand bottom. I've had the tank up and running for about six months now, live plants for the past five. About 90 percent of my plants were bought as bulbs from Wal-Mart and PetCo. I use root tabs, as well as the liquid stuff you can buy. So far I've had great luck with it. My Lilly pad is a good example. Just two weeks ago, I up rooted it, it split at the roots, and I cut back the roots and a lot of the stalks. Two weeks later it's taking back off again. It seems that every day a new Lilly pad emerges and starts heading to the top.The tank and fish look great, nice job. It looks like you're using sand only, are you using root tabs or any ferts? How long you had the plants in there? I've had some plants in sand with root tabs for about 2 weeks and all seems ok. I still plan to transplant everything to a future dirt tank tho. I'm just curious how you're doing with the sand/plants.
Is it just me, if is there a humorous forming on this guy's head?

Thanks for the response. That helps me understand why and what's working for you.
I definitely see the hump on the angelfish's head. I don't know angelfish well enough to know if it could be natural tho. It doesn't look bad in that it is the same color as the skin around it, it doesn't seem to be protruding from it's natural state and discoloring. It is definitely more of a hump than the other angelfish you have have tho.
