is it true that all synos swim upside down at times since ill have to get the larger ones. im getting two different ones and they will be housed with three odoe pikes, a mbu puffer, giraffe catfish, one elephant nose and possibly one bichir

I have a sixteen year old upside-down cat that is about 4.5-5" TL, so I don't think they get bigger than that. The Wet Spot has "Giant" upside-down cats (Brachysynodontis batensoda) that get to about seven or eight inches.

COuld there also be a size difference fish to fish? I have an upside down cat in my tank, and this is the first I've ever heard that they like to be in groups. My girlfriend has been keeping fish for the past 15 years, and her mom has been keeping fish for around thirty. They both swear to me that they have both had upside down cats hit the 6.5-7 inch mark. I showed her pic of the "giant" upside down cat, and she said thats not what she had, they were normal upside down cats that she bought from wal mart.

For sure. Mine actually has one stubby pectoral and may not have the best genetics (for growth, anyways - it has great longevity genes). Also, guessing the total length varies from person to person - mine might be closer to 6", I've never actually put a ruler to it.

Some do, I have one commonly known as the African Featherfin. They get to a decent size and it swims upside down a lot.

Almost. Some more, some less, some almost never, some almost always such as S. nigriventris.
