how large do syno upsidedown catfish get

COuld there also be a size difference fish to fish? I have an upside down cat in my tank, and this is the first I've ever heard that they like to be in groups. My girlfriend has been keeping fish for the past 15 years, and her mom has been keeping fish for around thirty. They both swear to me that they have both had upside down cats hit the 6.5-7 inch mark. I showed her pic of the "giant" upside down cat, and she said thats not what she had, they were normal upside down cats that she bought from wal mart.

It is very highly likely that your family has kept Synodontis euptera - the most common and cheapest of larger synos available worldwide in the trade. These fish reach a foot.

For sure. Mine actually has one stubby pectoral and may not have the best genetics (for growth, anyways - it has great longevity genes). Also, guessing the total length varies from person to person - mine might be closer to 6", I've never actually put a ruler to it.

Would it be safe to assume then that the six inch mark is what to expect? And something that I can't seen to find any info on. What is the growth Rate like with these guys? Mine was a rescue from a co workers tank who's filter broke and he decided he didn't want fish anymore. He has been in my tank about five months, was maybe 1.5 inches at the time, just saw him tonight and my best guess is he is around the 2.3-3 inch mark.
