The bigger one is clearly dominant: Eats first and most of the food; the others only eat after it is satisfied (that´s how it became noticeably bigger...)

Looking good!

Thanks guys!

Auranti,
I have one species you don´t keep..?? I would never imagine, LOL.
I envy so much (in the good sense) your collection... Well, now I have something for you to envy back :)

Are pleuros difficult to get in your area? I never though that

Finally !

As of yesterday I am the proud keeper of a group of 5 baby pleuros!
They´re really tiny (~2"...). 1/2h after entering the tank, I offered them (frozen) red mosquito larva and all the five satrted to eat. I was really please with that.
I am growing them out in a 4x2x2´all for themlseves, but the tank is at a complicated area (behind my bigger one) to take pics, so those will not be great in the thread....
Anyway I attach a pic taken in the bucket when I was aclimating them.

Question:
Some of the pleuros only have 2 ocells in one of the sides and the "regular" 3 on the other. Is this a defect?, an individual characteristic?, because they´re so young?
I like them a lot and wil lkeep them anyway, because it´s not easy to find pleuros in my country and I can´t be picky... but would like to know.

Thanks in advance

Congradulations!!!!! U got my fave snakehead! I used to have 2 before my rtc got to him but he also had only 2 spots but I heard they were normal

Thanks guys!

My collection isnt that large, some of the keepers here have many many more species :o. Also, had some recent deaths, so my channa family has reduced :(.
As for pleuros, they're relatively easy to get here. A few months back there were huge batches coming in, all in sizes of 30cm already. Fairly pricey, but the reason i dont own these guys is beacause i dont have anymore space.

How are these guys for you? I heard from keepers they're fairly more sensitive compared to other Channa species when younger.

Sad to hear about the recent deaths in your collection (hope it wasn´t the diplos or the platinum), but.... - loooking at the brighter side - maybe this gives you room for the pleuros

As regards your Q, I believe they are (more) sensitive to sudden changes in the water parameter (pH and others). I try not to exceed 15% in each water change.
Behaviorwise they were very shy in the beggining, then started to be more bold and now the bigger (dominant) is always out and about and the others are more reclusive (may be fear or.. respect)

Unfortunately the death include my platinum. The one with the black fin. Came home and he was motionless. And also my C punctata jumped put.

I see, thanks for the answers. Very interesting behaviour. Seems like it could be that the bolder one is the alpha of the pack. Maybe his colours will be more intense, do keep us updated! Would love to see them grow. I ask because i used to keep a group of young ones, had no luck unfortunately. Maybe i wasn't so expeeienced back then. Hmm, but i may try Channa pleurophthalmas again, thanks :).

Bad news as regards the 2 channas you lost.
Did you figure ou what happened to the platinum?

As regards my pleuros, I am sure I have an alpha in the group. And a very dominant one. Let´s hope he/she leaves some food for the others (I have increased the amount of of food to guarantee that) and does not harass them
